Shopify Web Developer – Maternity Cover

We’re looking for an experienced Shopify Web Developer to provide maternity cover and take sole ownership of the day\-to\-day development and maintenance of multiple Shopify stores. This is a hands\-on role working across several stores that share a similar codebase, with variations based on market, language and business requirements. As the sole developer, you’ll need to be confident working independently, managing priorities and making technical decisions. You’ll work closely with the e\-commerce, marketing and SEO teams to plan and deliver new features, support weekly releases, troubleshoot issues and continuously improve site performance and commercial results. **Key Responsibilities** * Take sole ownership of the development, maintenance and technical stability of multiple Shopify stores, working independently and managing priorities across the business. * Debug bugs, troubleshoot front\-end issues and investigate technical requests from e\-commerce, marketing and other teams. * Work closely with the e\-commerce team to plan, scope and deliver new features, improvements and weekly development releases (Currently with increasing AOV in mind). * Build and maintain reusable, scalable Shopify theme code using Liquid, HTML, CSS and JavaScript, avoiding unnecessary hard\-coded or duplicated solutions. * Build flexible sections and components making use of the Shopify theme schema/customiser, so non\-technical teams can manage content and settings independently (avoiding static hard coded features). * Develop with Shopify Markets, language and localisation requirements in mind, using conditional rendering and configurable options where needed. * Work with and troubleshoot third\-party Shopify apps and integrations. * Support marketing and commercial activity by developing features for campaigns, promotions, sales and wider site improvements. * Manage incoming development requests, balancing planned work with urgent issues and changing priorities, while advising stakeholders on the most appropriate technical solution. * Proactively identify opportunities to improve the customer journey, conversion and AOV, rather than only responding to assigned tasks. * Monitor and improve site speed and front\-end performance, ensuring new development remains lightweight and efficient. * Work closely with the SEO team and consider technical SEO requirements when building new features or making structural changes. * Test and QA development work across browsers, devices, markets and languages before release. **Technical Skills \& Experience** * Strong commercial experience developing and maintaining Shopify themes, with excellent knowledge of Liquid, HTML, CSS and JavaScript. * Experience building reusable, scalable and configurable theme components using Shopify sections, blocks, schema and the theme customiser. * Strong understanding of Shopify Markets, localisation and multi\-language storefronts, including conditional and market\-specific logic. * Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills across theme code, scripts, apps and front\-end behaviour. * Experience working with third\-party Shopify apps and integrations. * Good understanding of site speed, front\-end performance, technical SEO and responsive development. * Experience working across multiple Shopify stores with shared or similar codebases. * Comfortable with testing, QA and release workflows, including version control. * Good understanding of e\-commerce and customer journeys, with awareness of how development can support conversion and AOV. **About You** You’ll be the sole web developer during the maternity cover period, so you’ll need to be comfortable taking ownership while working closely with the wider team.
